7.16.07

Hello out there!!! Yes, this page is not completely dead! I recently came across some items of interest and thought I would update the page and do some other little editing.

For those interested in what Lori and Corey Cole are up to these days, go to the Transolar website.
I also found on there a link to the history and origins of the Quest for Glory series with some information that was new to me.

The big news, however is that there is a remake of Quest for Glory 2: Trial by Fire that is in the works! AGD Interactive is the company that is working on it and if you want to read more about it, go to their website. There is also a forum on there if you want to contribute and/or find out more about it, and they also have 2 other remakes that you can download for free of King's Quest 1 and 2 !!

Also, there is another fan project to create another game in the QFG universe called Hero 6, but I think they still have a ways to go.

I will try to update as I get more information but please check the various forums for more current info!!!

11.28.00

I updated the forum to EZboard, so check it out and enjoy. No other news on the QFG front, the Coles are working on other projects like Explorati.

8.20.99 - the fans!

Thanks to my friend Luke, i have some new and interesting info:

Check out http://www.homestead.com/therev0lution/

There is a group of series fans out there who are programming a QFG5 multiplayer patch! I'm not sure how it will be integrated into the game, what server it will use, or when it will be available, but there is hope. Also check out http://loirak.com/hero6 Some fans (I am one) are working to create a series "spinoff" to be distributed as freeware.

6.29.99 - Updates, etc

Well, there haven't been too many updates because the future of QFG is uncertain, but I will continue to build the site and add new stuff including news and sections about other games (adventure, rpg)

I added a QFGV Winamp skin to the files page, check it out!

6.4.99 - Grammy News, Transolar

The Transolar web page has been updated!

Grammys for Game Music Game industry musicians gain recognition from NARAS. May 27, 1999

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has approved three new categories for its prestigious Grammy Awards that will be open game music. Beginning in the year 2000, the following new categories will be added: The Best Soundtrack Album category will be part of a new Field, Music for Film, Television and Other Visual Media, which will also house the Best Song for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media and Best Instrumental Composition for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media. "Other Visual Media" was not specifically defined as computer and videogames, but the definition was nearly identical to that made in a proposal by game industry musicians to the Academy earlier this year. "This is big news for those of us who specialize in music design, music composition, and music production for games," said Chance Thomas, a leading game industry musician at Sierra and the driving force behind getting game music noticed by the Academy. "NARAS' formal recognition puts game music on equal footing with film and television scores, a quality benchmark many of us have been pointing to for years." "I want those of you in the game industry to understand, that this is a direct result of a handful of composers from the game industry giving of their time, talent, intelligence, and means to open the Grammy door to every music professional working in the game industry, now and in the future," said Thomas. "It's a wonderful accomplishment." Thomas predicted that this turn of events could have significant impact on how game music is made. He expects that the budget for game scores might increase, more game soundtracks would be released as audio CDs, and more mainstream musicians would team up with game makers to cooperate on the scores. "I believe all of these forces will serve to significantly elevate the quality and profile of game music, and that's certainly a worthy end to this campaign," said Thomas. Congratulations to Thomas and the other talented musicians who work in the game industry and certainly deserve wider recognition for their skills.

4.30.99 - some news..

Sorry for the lack of updates, but there hasn't been too much news really. I am going to add some more stuff to the site later when i have some more time. Meanwhile I found this on the official site:

Meanwhile, there's not too much we can do except to get more people to buy QFGV and the Collection so they will realize that they should make another game..

Plans for a multiplayer add-on to Quest for Glory V have been canceled this week. Sierra's closure of the Yosemite Entertainment design studio was the overriding reason behind the decision. When Quest for Glory V began development in 1996, the development team envisioned a multiplayer feature that would allow up to three players to compete and collaborate online. Multiplayer was built into early versions of the product, including the Quest for Glory Sneak Peek Demo released in late 1997. As the game moved farther along in development, it became increasingly difficult to ensure that the multiplayer system would be reliable enough to include in the final version. In the last months before the games release late last year, Sierra decided to ship Quest for Glory V as a single player adventure. The final box design was revised to represent Quest for Glory V as a single player game. Many people at Sierra, including series creator Lori Cole, had hoped the multiplayer feature would be added later as a free upgrade. With the closure of the Yosemite Entertainment and the resulting loss of the Quest for Glory programming team, the multiplayer expansion plan became impossible. Many inside Sierra are disappointed as we had been looking forward to the multiplayer mode from the project’s beginnings. Sierra will continue to provide free technical support for this product. Version 1.1, a patch which resolves known single-player bugs found after release, is available as a free download users through Sierra Utilities (Windows) and on the Sierra FTP site (Windows and Macintosh).

Some bad news today, I found out that Yosemite Entertainment was shut down recently and many people's jobs were lost as a result. This just goes to show that big corporate companies suck! Who knows how this will affect the QFG series, but I'm just happy that QFGV wasn't cancelled or anything like that. You can find more information at http://www.roboto.com
