My overall impression was really good with this new lineup that Gilby has. Since he has played and toured with Tracii Guns before, their guitar blended together very well, and several times I thought they had been playing together for years. They did an awesome job with the solo for Tiajuana Jail, and they stopped in the middle for a great dual guitar solo and also pulled in the My Michelle intro riff, which was really great! At the end of this song, Tracii pulled out one of the craziest solos i've ever seen, he is one amazing guitarist. At points in the middle of songs and before the set, he played some Led Zeppelin, and some countryish stuff, and he can play the blues. So if you think he's just another metal guitarist, you have underestimated him. They seem to have a lot of chemistry on stage and joke around with each other a lot, it was funny and entertaining. Since they are just starting out, they don't know all that many blues songs all together, but that will probably change soon after they get the experience of touring more often. Knockin' on Heaven's Door was amazing, and Tracii added some riffs i've never heard before and his solos were good. On this song, Gilby really shined and did an excellent solo. After seeing him live, my opinion of him as a guitar player increased a lot. In the beginning I didn't think too much of him since I never really heard him Play, but now I love him! Extending Knockin', they added a great little funky reggae part to the song and they brought in a keyboard player for the second show, so that was great. The Thrill is Gone was really great too, especially since they said they had never done it before. Stefan was energetic and a good bass player, and he even sang on Cold Turkey, which was an awesome song because their interpretation was different than the original. Stefan talked a bit between songs, he's a pretty funny guy! Eric Singer is a really great drummer, and he also sang backup vocals. He got the chance to do an old Black Sabbath song, and during the second show, the band took a short break while he did a drum solo! They all seemed to have a good time, and they will probably come back to play again soon. If they are in an area near you, check it out, it's definitely a great, high energy show!
