Thanks to: "Leandro Jose" for this interview! The brazilian mag Showbizz of this month has an interview with Duff. The interview was did by Daniel Oliveira and has 2 pictures of a red haired Duff. One sat in a sofa with his Gibson bass and another with a cigarrete. I translated some interesting parts of the interview, most related with GNR. The portuguese/english translation was did in 10 minutes so sorry about the errors. Life After Axl by Daniel Oliveira Showbizz # 167, year 15, number 6 - June, 1999 Showbizz : After the N.O tour, the press started to hear problems about the relationship between the GNR members. What realy happened? Duff : Slash got sick an tired and said : " Fu** off the band!". He and Axl didn't talked with each other anymore. They were always talking with each other through me - it was like being between two kids. After Axl wanted to fire Matt but I said : "We're a band and the majority must decide. You're pissed off because Matt said you're wrong". S : Wrong about what? D :About Axl's delay to record the next album. The group turned into an authoritarian thing - there was only Axl's opinion. They offered us lots of money to go to Europe but I thought : "Wait, I never was into it because of the money. Why would I do it now? A have a house a car and I'm fine". I had a dinner with Axl and said : "Man, the things are beyond the limits. I don't want to play to a commandant. S : Why Axl turned into this egocentric person? D : Because people always did the thing he wanted, people we're always saying he was right. They're afraid of him because they don't want to lose their jobs. It's a sad but true situation. If I was still playng with Axl, I was going against my own personality. Unfortunately, who loses with all this history are the Guns N' Roses fans. S : Why you, Slash and Matt don't continue playing together? D : One day we'll do it. We're still friends. We played at the Sundance Festival and the crowd went crazy. It was an unforgetable night. S : How did you react when Axl said he would continue the band with other members? D : If I were him, I would't call this band GNR. It's not fair with me and Slash, we created this gropu together. I don't even need to say that our history it's in the records. My reaction? He wasn't fair but I can't tell him what to do. If he thibks that this is right, so... S : Are you still friends? D : Yes, but this doesn't mean that we agree with everything. We grew up together and he's like a brother to me. I'm not saying bad things about him, I'm just being honest. S : So you're having a love/hate relationship about the group today? D : Not about the music we created. But, do you wanna know what will be great? I can play in Brazil and other places because of the band. People will be curious about my band and I want to prove that the Loaded is fantastic. S : Obvious question: what's the future of GNR withou you and Slash? D : The fans will judge. When Jimmy Page and Robert Plant returned with the Page & Plant, I didn't go to the show because John Paul Jones wasn't there. The same about Aerosmith when they did their tour with Johnny Crespo and Rick Dufay. I though : "This ins't Aersmith so fuck off!"
