The Cult - August 21st, 1999 House of Blues, Hollywood Setlist (approximate): In the Clouds She Sells Sanctuary Revolution Rain Edie (Ciao Baby) Sweet Soul Sister Lil' Devil The Phoenix Wildflower Sun King Wild Hearted Son This was a great venue to see this band , because you can get pretty close to the stage. The crowd was pretty rowdy so I couldn't stay near the front, but I had a good view of the whole thing. They started out in complete darkness, with the Star Wars battle music from The Phantom Menace, which was really awesome to build the anticipation! The backdrop had the words Cult Rising with a triangle and flames behind it. I was impressed by Ian's vocals, hes a great singer. He wore a black shirt , brown leather jacket and brown leather pants and he still has long hair. He also brought out a tambourine and some maracas during the set, which is a nice addition to an otherwise normal set. Billy Duffy was quite good, but didn't play as many solos as I would like, but he did a great job. I also liked the bass player, he did a short solo during the Phoenix. I didn't like the rhythm guitarist that much, but he played pretty well, he wore a cowboy hat. The crowd was pretty wild, and Ian nearly stopped the show when he saw someone trying to pick a fight in the crowd. That was not very "cool" at all, it seems like a lot of shows have unfortunate stuff like that happen. Matt Sorum was great or even better than before, no mistakes at all that I could hear, and he was easily able to adapt to the spontaneous changes in the set, and during the show. He did do a short drum solo in the Phoenix when they introduced the band. He was really into the show and also sang some backup vocals, this man has a lot of energy!! For the encore, Ian changed into a nashville pussy shirt and painted his face red and put his hair up, it was cool! I liked the tribal feeling that was in the air. Unfortunatly, no cover songs, but I guess that's understandable since this is basically just a warmup tour. Even though I didn't know all the songs, I loved it, since there was so much energy in the room, but of course you always enjoy the songs you know more. My favorites were: Lil' Devil, Wild Flower, Sweet Soul Sister, Phoenix. Well, if you didn't get to see them this time, hopefully you will when they tour again, since I heard they are recording a new album sometime soon!
