Slash's Snakepit - Ain't Life Grand Review Slash's back and this time he has some new guys in the band, which doesn't hold them back at all! They are all solid musicians with Slash riffing and soloing as only he does best. This album is fun to listen to, and good, straight ahead rock n' roll. The songs that stood out most were Serial Killer, Life's Sweet Drug, Landslide and Speed Parade. I liked the mood and atmosphere of Serial Killer, and the whole idea of the song. The guitar solo is great, a bit more structured and of a different scale than is usually used I think. The acoustic intro is also very nice, and the little children singing makes it eerie. Life's Sweet drug drives hard, and has a powerful and unique drum intro which definitely needs to be commended, and the riff is memorable as well. The chorus is catchy too which also makes a song easier to get into. They did a great job mixing this album and producing it and it sounds really great when you turn it up. Landslide has a great chorus also, and I knew it would be good from the first time I heard it. Speed Parade is nice and heavy with a relatively simple riff which is repeated in different positions. I like when the music speeds up, like a car in a race would. Slash shines with imaginative solos on songs like Mean Bone and Been There Lately , which features a nice echo effect. Serial Killer has an amazing solo as well, and all the rest have some nice guitar work too. The tone from the BC Rich on the Alien is very nice, and it has another great riff. The vocals and drums are very good throughout, but I think the lyrics were lacking in some areas. I think Johnny doesn't really get to show off unfortunately, but his lines on the Truth begin to show it a little bit. Also, it was too bad that Rusted Heroes wasn't included on the album since it has some great slide work! A very good album to listen to in the car or blast loud at home to annoy the neighbors! If you like Slash and rock n' roll then you should definitely check this one out! --Ravi
