HOW I GOT INTO GNR: It was about 3 years ago when i had just recieved an electric
guitar for my birthday, i was sitting on my bed with one of my stepdad's rock
cds (various artists) i had never previously listened to rock music. So i
whopped the cd on and was happily sitting there listening to the geat new
music i had found. Track 3 came on and instantly i was drawn in like a zombie,
the intro had me mesmerized, "wow, cool stuff!" i thought, i scanned
the cd to find that the amazing song i was listening to was none other than
"Sweet child o' mine" by Guns N' Roses.i carried on listening to
the song until it got to Slash's amazing solo bit. This had me absolutely
Gobsmacked. "This is truly fuckin' brilliant!" i murmured. it was
just the whole song,..the intro...the solos,......it was all great! So the
next day i went out and bought "Appetite"...... I swear i listened
to that album for about 3 days solid non-stop. With both catchy tunes and
searing riffs this was no doubt a truly great album, served up with slamming
grooves, tuneful hooks, and singable melodies. Those guys were awesome!!!!!!
Altho Guns N' Roses were a great band in their day, i dont think you can say
that for nowadays. With Axl Rose as the only original member (maybe except
for Dizzy Reed) the new GN'R will never live up to the name. ( I mean what
kind of idiot names himself Buckethead and then claims to have been raised
in a chicken coop?!!!!) im sorry but Axl has taken it too far this time. Why
he is so bitter towards Slash and other Gunners i really dont know (probably
because he didnt get his own way) Anyway without them Axl wouldn't be where
he is now. Axl won't have anything to do with Slash now ( not so long ago
the new GNR were playing a club in a part of town where Slash was staying.
Apparently Axl told security that if Slash showed up then they were not to
let him in!) i mean, how sad. As much as I love Axl he's not what he used
to be. His voice has aged as much as his body ( altho i expect alcohol plays
a big part in this.) and he generally just seems different. Axl has done well
in playing the part of making us wait ( ie,Chinese Democracy) and as Axl once
said..." All we need is just a little patience", Well sorry darling
but 8 yrs is quite enough for me thankyou. With a supposed scheduled release
date of October 2003 im still wondering wether it WILL ACTUALLY be released.
There was also speculation going round that Geffen were gonna drop the band
too. ( Tells ya something dont it!) Well now that iv had my little moan im
happy. Im really looking forward to Velvet Revolver and i think that they
will make it big. Not as big as Guns n roses, but enough to show Axl that
his former bandmates can go their own way without even a thought for him.
At the end of the day in his own little mind Axl thinks that they won't be
able to live or survive without him as he thinks he's superior. Well dream
on cus it aint gona happen!

Favorite Band Member and reason Axl. Axl. Axl. He is the second man I ever felt lust for. When I was a little girl I saved my pennies and bought a poster of W. Axl Rose in his signature spandex. He is so MAN, grrrrrr. It's not just sexual, however. I have a few friends of friends of Axl-- which I hope to some day put to use-- and somehow I feel connected to the man. I myself am vain and self-centered on the outside, but I think he has the same insides that I do. As Axl put it himself, there are a lot of inner feelings that are "deep and often agonizing emotions (but) the appropriate expression of which (one that promotes a healing, release and a positive resolve) is often discouraged and many times denied." I feel it, too. Favorite song and reason "Don't Cry". The true love of my life, Max (sometimes called "Maxl" and a rock star in his own right), and I kind-of met because we were the only two GnR fans around. He bought the making of Don't Cry video and we watched it over, and over, and over with his neighbor. I fell in love with Max about that same time. Max may have left me, but I still worship the sheer happiness and love of my memories whenever I hear "Don't Cry." It gives me a warm fuzzy.
how you got into GNR Hm. I got into GnR because of my dance teacher. I have always been a ballerina, FOREVER. My favorite teacher, Miss Tally, went to a GnR show when I was about 9(?) years old. I idolized this lady-- if she liked Guns N Roses then I was gonna like them, too. Little did I know I would LOVE them! (btw, she showed her tits on the big screen--- very cool)
Well, one of my friend-of-friends of Axl is actually my mother. Her former boss grew up with Axl in Indiana and actually drew the design on Use Your Illusion I that appears after the lyrics to "coma". Anyhow, one day while Axl was in the San Diego area, he called my mom's boss so they could get together AND MY MOTHER ANSWERED THE PHONE AND TALKED TO AXL!!! How I got Into them: Quite by accident actually. My brother I wanted to annoy our parents by getting a tape that would be really loud. I was about twelve at the time. I had heard someone going on about how loud and obnoxious the band was, so we bought the tape, brought it home and cranked it. How I got into Guns N'Roses: I'll always be eternally grateful to my two best friends growing up, Katie & Alyson...thanx to them, I'd been into rock since I was about 6, and Metal since it I was 7...I listened to, and loved, all the Hair Bands, despite being too young to get the full meaning (What 8 year old actually understood what Def Leppard meant by "I'm hot, stick sweet, from my head to my feet"? I'll admit, at the time, I though "Pour Some Sugar On Me" was about candy or somethin'. Hey, I was 8, okay!)...anyway, I'm 8 years old, and I go into a record store with Katie, intending to buy a Poison tape...Katie convinces me to pick up a copy of the newly released "Appetite For Destruction" tape while we're there...we went back to my house and listened to it in my room, and from the moment I heard "Sweet Child O' Mine", I was hooked...a couple years later, with a little life experience under my belt, I learned to appreciate their angrier, grittier music, and by my teens, certain songs of theirs became my anthems...and to this day, GN'R is still my favorite band...
Band Stories: I will admit, aside from watching The PayPerView Paris concert on cable, and the Tokyo concert on video, I haven't seen GN'R in concert...tried to go to the Metallica/Faith No More/Guns N'Roses concert, all prepared to hitch-hike to DC with friends to do it, but got caught...will never forgive my mom for that one... I _did_, however, have the chance to see Gilby play with Slash's Snakepit at a nearby club a few years ago, standing right up against the stage...I have got to say, Slash and Gilby are two of the nicest guys you'll ever find, and they're _really_ great to their fans...at one point, between songs, I mentioned to the friend I was standing with that I was thirsty from singing along for 45 minutes, and Slash (who we had the unbelievable fortune of being directly in front of for the whole show...hell, I got sprayed with the man's sweat) heard me and held out his water bottle to us with the friendliest smile I've ever seen...and during a 10 minute or so break, Gilby crouched down at the foot of the stage and was chatting it up with us (started off with commenting on how much he like the "Religions of the World: Shit Happens" t-shirt I was wearing)...during the show, every once in awhile, Gilby would toss the pick he'd been using out into the audience and fish a new one out of the box at he's feet...Katie caught one, and while she won't let me _have_ it, she lets me play my guitar with it every once in awhile... My other story is actually from a friend of my uncle (who was in a band in the early 60s, and once opened up for Janis Joplin at a small concert in Virginia, before she was famous)...in her younger partying days, around the time she met my uncle, she ended up living in L.A. for several years...her first apt. there, her next door neighbors were, if I remember correctly, the boys from Motley Crue, before they were rich and famous (unaware how big their neighbors would someday be, Cindy and her roomie would constantly tell them to "Quiet the fuck down!" when they would jam late at night)...anyway, while in L.A., she waitressed at both the Rainbow & the Whiskey, clubs that the band (GN'R) frequented...she briefly dated Slash (about 2 weeks, according to her), and says she didn't get along too well with Axl when she first met them all, but she partied with them frequently, and apparently found common ground with Axl by trading him free drinks in exchange for free tickets to their gigs...I wouldn't have believed the stories, and actually didn't, until she pulled out a bunch of old pictures, including one which shows her being carried around a dump of an apt slung fireman-style over Slash's shoulder, one of her sitting on Steve Adler's lap with a joint in one hand and a bottle of JD in the other in same apt, and one of her in a bar dumping a beer over an amused-looking Axl's head...She's heard from them every couple years or so since she moved back to Baltimore, the last contact she had with any of them being a pair of ticket to the Metallica/Faith No More show in DC that Axl sent her with a back stage pass and a note saying "Don't forget, you owe me a drink for this, babe. XOXOXO, W. Axl Rose" ...I gotta say officially, I'm jealous... I have three baby cousins, all under 4 years old, and when I used to take care of them, I would sing to them...I'd sing the boys to sleep with "Patience", "Sweet Child O' Mine", and "Don't Cry"...by the time Alyssa was born, the only thing anyone _could_ get her to fall asleep with was rock..."Rock-a-bye baby" did nothing, but a verse of "Paradise City" and she'd be out like a light with a smile on her face...*grin* It's immensely satisfying to know that I've passed an appreciation of good music onto the younger generation...

how i got into Gn'R: I was a very late listener......I have vivid memories of a few songs from when i was little but only realy started to listen to them a year ago in 98. I live in england and we had just started getting ECW but it was from 96. They played the video to "november rain " i reconised axl from memories them inside 1 month i bought all the albums and welcome to the videos.....i was hooked

| How I got into Guns N' Roses: | My sister listened to GN'R when I was 5. I liked Paradise City, but I was a bit confused with the lyrics. I would say "Take me down to the paradise city where the girls are green and the grass is pretty." Pretty funny. I didn't listen to their music on a regular basis. When I was 10, I listened to country music. But then, I suddenly grew up and got some sense knocked in to me. One day I put Appetite for Destruction in my tape player and got attached to Mr. Brownstone. The whole tape brought back memories of when I was 5 and 6. I started to drift away from country music and started listening to rock. Since then, my favorite band has been GN'R. I am very disappointed that they broke up. I don't understand why they did. I guess they just didn't realize how much people loved them. I heard that they are getting back together to work on a new album. I am very excited to hear that. |
