Press Release 10/28/09 - New York
THE BLACK CROWES will release their new DVD, Cabin Fever on November 24,
2009 on the bands own label, Silver Arrow. The DVD includes footage
from the recording sessions that ultimately became their critically
acclaimed new CD, Before the Frost…Until the Freeze. The innovative
technique of inviting fans into the studio to become part of the
process during recording is a rare experience and prudently, the band
filmed the sessions. Before the Frost…Until the Freeze was recorded
over a series of five nights in front of an intimate studio audience at
Levon Helm Studios in Woodstock, NY. The DVD of those sessions, Cabin
Fever takes that experience one step further by allowing viewers to see
behind the scenes footage of both the recording and songwriting
sessions along with interaction between the band and the audience. The
DVD gives fans that didn’t have the opportunity to attend the ability
to feel the experience firsthand. EXCLUSIVELY on the DVD will be THE
ORIGINAL Little Lizzie Mae as well as COVERS of Velvet Underground’s Oh
Sweet Nuthin & Fred Neil’s Dolphins. The DVD will also include
the tracks Aimless Peacock, Good Morning Captain, Appaloosa, and Been
a Long Time (Waiting on Love) among others from Before the Frost…Until
the Freeze, Chris Robinson conceived the concept of both Before the
Frost…Until the Freeze, and the DVD, Cabin Fever: “I think we
fulfilled a musical commitment to continue on the golden road of
artistic independence. Approaching 20 years into our careers, we still
are ambitious enough to push ourselves to create something unique that
we have never done before.”

Warpaint Review:
POWERFUL AND SOUL-WARMING SURPRISE FROM THE BLACK CROWES WITH 'WARPAINT' ALBUM
By: Dennis Cook
The Black Crowes remind us that we are stardust & golden AND rust & dirt. In their rollicking corridors one encounters humanity's unvarnished highs and lows. They don't shrink from the darkness because they understand you have pass through shadows to get to the light. This dynamic has rarely been more evident or immediately engaging than on their long awaited seventh album, Warpaint.
"Keep on running through the gates of the city/ To give up now would be such a pity," announces opener "Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution," a bit of classic swagger that swiftly reminds you the Crowes have more hooks than a bait & tackle shop. The above lyric is immediately followed by the nakedly sarcastic question, "Don't you want to see the ship go down with me?" Lead singer Chris Robinson is winking at us in what amounts to a sly rejoinder to Bob Dylan's "When The Ship Comes In," where they put their shoulders into it with rock 'n' roll smarts and subliminal ontology. Like Fight Club, the Crowes know many, especially in America, are polishing the brass on the Titanic, celebrating and sustaining a lifestyle that's killing us by degrees. And somebody's gotta fiddle while Rome burns, right?
After seven years of waiting for new studio work it would have been a crushing disappointment if Warpaint were less than the best parts of this band. Given their heavy touring schedule the past three years since they reconvened, they've had a lot of time to figure out what kind of music they want to make. Warpaint offers the conclusion to this process with an artfully focused spin on their trademark saunter through the American musical spectrum – blues putting the boot to country, gospel dragged happily through the mud and folk skipping with an electric bounce. There's a switched-on energy that crackles from "Daughters" right up to closer "Whoa Mule," a tune whose title suggests cornpone but instead offers up one of the most natural chapters in their history, a deceptively simple pronouncement that they're "dirty but they're dreaming."
There's a beautifully ugly edge to Rich Robinson's riff construction here, something raw & unhomogenized, original & totally immediate. One feels it in the foundation thunderclap of one of the tightest, heaviest rhythm sections today. Drummer Steve Gorman and bassist Sven Pipien add weight to every cut, picking up on the nuances in the Robinson Brothers' compositions, instinctively going hard or feather soft as the mood demands. There's a serrated edge to the blues elements on Warpaint, undoubtedly due in part to new guitarist Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars and now a full-time member of the Black Crowes. That edge is accentuated by Rich's own thoughtfully jagged attack on "Walk Believer Walk" and the sole cover here, Reverend Charlie Jackson's quietly bent dust road hymn "God's Got It," which the Crowes simply murder dead where it stands.
There's also a good deal of the mid-tempo heartbreak associated with fan favorites like "Bad Luck Blue Eyes Goodbye," "Sister Luck," "Girl From A Pawnshop" and "Wiser Time." Joining their pantheon of slow eyed charmers is "Oh, Josephine," which some may attempt to read as autobiography for Chris Robinson but really lies much closer to The Band's brilliant character studies - a tale of disappointment followed by weary-but-unbroken survivor's grace. For the naysayers who stupidly claim Chris has lost some of his vaunted vocal prowess in recent years, "Josephine" shows he's still the finest rock lead singer going, a stirring amalgam of Gram Parsons, Terry Reid, Elvis Presley, Paul Rodgers and many things indefinably his own. He shines just as brightly on more direct assaults like "Evergreen" and "Wounded Bird" but both he and the entire band often show their truest colors when the pace dips and all their brightly bruised parts rise to the surface.
Their bigness and offhanded gift for unforced epics shows up on the decidedly freaky "We Who See The Deep" – a heady sojourn akin to "Evil Eye" – and "Movin' On Down The Line," which trundles out of "Hotel Illness" onto the Stones' Main Street in new shoes, lit up by fresh purpose and ready to walk proud. It's worth noting the baldly fantastic playing of new keyboardist Adam MacDougall on these cuts. MacDougall is a subtle presence throughout but when he emerges into the spotlight, as on the upright piano tilted "There's Gold In Them Hills," his playing is filled with tenderness and ivory grace.
Repeated listens to Warpaint confirm that "Locust Street" is the Black Crowes' "Hot Burrito No. 1," a resonant heartbreak serenade with one of Chris' finest lyrics:
"Dry bread on the table/ Burn the milk, salt the paper/ And it's easy pickings on Locust Street/ There's no place to hide/ And you can't find love on Locust Street/ But you can hear the sunrise crying/ Can't you hear the sunrise crying/ A song for you alone?"
Again and again, Warpaint accentuates and capitalizes on the Crowes' ability to split the listener open, peeling away the outer skin so the real meat inside can breathe in the open air. It stings a little but heaven above it feels glorious once you get used to the sensation.
In the end, it's the simple affirmation at the start of "Movin' On Down The Line" that encapsulates Warpaint's underlying message: "It's alright, sister. It's alright, brother." Like the rest of us, the Black Crowes have a lot of wreckage in their wake but the one thing that remains constant for them is this unique music, out of step with popular trends in every period they've existed, but resonant with the stuff we call timeless. They are holding onto that notion very tightly these days, and their own tenacity and thoughtful reflection on Warpaint will help get you up on your feet when life is less than ideal. It's a powerful, soul-warming surprise to find waiting in the dawn.

“It’s about freedom, and what revolution used to stand for, how you’ve got to make one of your own and make it last,” singer Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes shouts as the brawling guitars of “Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution,” the opening song on the Crowes’ first studio album since Lions in 2001, boom through the stereo speakers in a friend’s apartment in Brooklyn. “It’s like the last line of the song,” Robinson says, then singing along to himself on the record, “Don’t you want to see the ship go down with me?”
That fighting spirit is a running theme in Warpaint, to be released on March 4th on the Crowes’ own Silver Arrow label. The album features ten new originals, written by Chris and his guitarist brother, Rich, including the heavy-blues march “Walk Believer Walk,” the midtempo bruiser “We Who See the Deep,” a country-soul ballad, “There’s Gold in Them Hills,” and the closing raga-flavored hymn, “Whoa Mule,” with Chris declaring, “We’re dirty but we’re dreamin’, ” in a field of harmonium, slide guitar, harmonica and hand drumming. Warpaint also comes with holy rollin’ — a raucous cover of “God’s Got It,” written and recorded in the Seventies by Louisiana guitarist-preacher Rev. Charlie Jackson.
According to Chris, Warpaint is the complete package of the Georgia-born Crowes’ passions and influences — the Delta blues, Dixie soul and early-Seventies classic rock that immediately marked them as determined purists on their 1990 hit debut, Shake Your Moneymaker. “It’s got all the roots,” he says as Warpaint plays — loudly — behind him. “But it’s also got a psychedelic feel,” he adds. The Day-Glo country ballad “Oh Josephine” is, Chris says, “one of the best things Rich and I have ever written.” But at the end, it veers into a long finale of exultant, battling guitars, played by Rich and Luther Dickinson of the North Mississippi Allstars, who has officially joined the Crowes with this album. “Hey, we’re the Black Crowes,” Chris says with a smile poking through his gold-rush-miner beard. “We gotta tack on a three-minute coda.”
Warpaint, the Crowes’ seventh studio album, has been an unusually long time coming. In 2002, the band — exhausted by a decade of touring, record-label politics and the Robinsons’ own notorious, combative relationship — went on open-ended hiatus, during which Chris and Rich each pursued solo careers. The brothers restarted the Crowes in 2005 but stuck to live work until last July, when they recorded Warpaint with Dickinson, bassist Sven Pipien and original drummer Steve Gorman in a studio in Woodstock, New York. The Crowes cut the songs live in the studio in just three weeks and in as few takes as possible, with minimal overdubbing. The voodoo rock of “Evergreen” was caught in a single take, and “Whoa Mule” was actually cut outdoors. “You can hear the birds,” Chris points out.
The incandescent tangle of Rich and Dickinson’s guitars on Warpaint was, Chris claims, inevitable: “We’ve known the guys in the North Mississippi Allstars for a long time.” But after Rich and Dickinson debuted their side project, Circle Sound, a covers-jam band, in early 2007, the Robinsons decided to make Dickinson a Crowe for real. “Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do,” Chris says, laughing. Meanwhile, the Allstars, founded by Dickinson and his drummer brother, Cody, release their own new album, Hernando, on January 22nd.
The Crowes are so proud of Warpaint that they will play the record in its entirety every night during a run of shows in March. Chris points out that the originals are truly new, too — all written shortly before the Woodstock sessions, with no riffs or hooks left over from the past few years. “I didn’t want any of that,” Chris says. “I wanted to show people where we are now.”

For the first time in their 18-year career, THE BLACK CROWES will
perform an album of theirs in its entirety. On a special run of "One
Night Only" shows beginning March 2 and wrapping March 20, fans will
experience "Warpaint" — the group's first album of all new studio
material in seven years, due out March 4 — in its entirety onstage,
after which the band will perform songs from their catalog and selected
surprises.
A listing of these seven one-time-only tour dates is
below, with the on-sale info.
In the midst of this trek, the band will
headline Stubbs March 15 at SXSW in Austin.
THE BLACK CROWES
launch their overseas tour March 24 when they headline the East Coast
Blues & Roots Festival in Australia. They'll continue their Down
Under trek — their first since 1991 — through April 5, and conclude
with exclusive performances in London, UK at Brixton Academy April 9
and The Amsterdam Music Hall April 11. A major market multiple night
U.S. tour will begin in May, with cities and venues to be announced in
the near future.
"Warpaint" marks the recording debut of two new band members — second guitarist Luther Dickerson, formerly of NORTH
MISSISSIPPI ALLSTARS, and keyboardist Adam MacDougall — who join Chris
and Rich and drummer Steve Gorman and bassist Sven Pipien. The album —
which is being independently released on the band's own newly-formed
Silver Arrow Records, distributed through Megaforce/Sony Red BMG —
builds compellingly on the band's trademark adventurous brew of rock,
blues, country, soul and gospel.
Produced and mixed by Paul Stacey at Allaire Studios, Woodstock, NY, the album features 11 songs,
all of which were written by Chris and Rich Robinson, except "God's Got
It" by the Reverend Charlie Jackson. "Goodbye Daughters of the
Revolution" is set as the album's first single and video; the song will
arrive at radio on Monday, January 7.

The Black Crowes will release their new album, Warpaint, in March 2008! Press release follows:
THE BLACK CROWES TO RELEASE
‘WARPAINT’
FIRST STUDIO ALBUM OF ALL NEW MATERIAL IN SEVEN YEARS
DUE OUT MARCH 4 ON THEIR OWN SILVER ARROW RECORDS LABEL,
DISTRIBUTED BY MEGAFORCE/SONY RED BMG
BAND TO PERFORM ‘WARPAINT’ IN ITS ENTIRETY ON LIMITED
“ONE NIGHT ONLY” SWING
From the beginning, THE BLACK CROWES have done things their own way. And it’s good to know that some things don’t change.
WARPAINT—the band’s first album of all-new studio material in seven years, due out March 4 worldwide—will be independently released on the band’s own newly formed Silver Arrow Records and distributed through Megaforce/Sony Red BMG. It’s their first studio release since the acclaimed LIONS album in 2001 (on V2).
Produced and mixed by Paul Stacey at Allaire Studios, Woodstock, NY, the album features 11 songs, all of which were written by CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON, except “God’s Got It” by the Reverend Charlie Jackson. The album builds compellingly on the band’s trademark adventurous brew of rock, blues, country, soul and gospel.
WARPAINT marks the recording debut of two new band members—guitarist Luther Dickinson and keyboardist Adam MacDougall--who join CHRIS and RICH and drummer Steve Gorman and bassist Sven Pipien. Dickinson, of North Mississippi Allstars, officially steps in to replace producer/guitarist Paul Stacey, whose position with the band was always intended to be temporary. THE BLACK CROWES are deeply appreciative that Stacey committed his genuine talent and time to the band and their performances for most of 2007.
The album’s complete track listing is: “Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution,” “Walk Believer Walk,” “O, Josephine,” “Evergreen,” “We Who See The Deep,” “Locust Street,” “Movin’ On Down The Line,” “Wounded Bird,” “God’s Got It,” “There’s Gold In Them Hills,” and “Whoa Mule.”
CHRIS says the album’s title signifies “the revolution that could take place in all our souls.”
Meanwhile, for the first time in their 18-year career, THE BLACK CROWES will perform an album of theirs in its entirety. On a special run of “One Night Only” shows beginning on March 4, fans will experience WARPAINT performed in its entirety, after which the band will play songs from their catalog and selected surprises. Dates TBA.
THE BLACK CROWES will begin their world tour March 24 by headlining the Byron Bay Festival in Australia. They’ll continue their down under trek—their first since 1991—through April 5 before playing special engagements in Tokyo, Amsterdam and London, and concluding with shows in Hamburg and Cologne, Germany (dates TBA).
THE BLACK CROWES have sold over 20 million albums and are known as one of rock’s best live acts. They have been called “The Most Rock n’ Roll Rock ‘n’ Roll Band In the World” and a “thoroughbred American rock ‘n’ freakin’ roll band”; their panoramic live shows feature alternating set lists and signature incendiary musical explorations. THE BLACK CROWES'
TRIUMPHANT FALL TOUR LAUNCH;
BAND RELEASE STATEMENT RE DEPARTURE OF TWO MEMBERS;
NEW ALBUM SLATED FOR 2007
Led by CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON, THE BLACK CROWES
launched their fall last week (9/7/06) with a roar,
treating 7,000 fans at Brown's Island in Richmond, VA
to a career-spanning set of freak `n' roll favorites,
followed by three more powerful performances through
the weekend. Despite guitarist Marc Ford's startling
resignation only 48 hours before the tour
commenced--and the recent dismissal of long-time
keyboardist Eddie Hawrysch--the band united to deliver
a blistering signature performance.
In her Richmond Times-Dispatchreview (9/8/06) of the
concert, writer Melissa Ruggieri discussed the
musicality of the band by noting: "Rich is the meat of
this band with his Jimmy Page-worthy licks stampeding
through `Twice As Hard' and gently dancing around `She
Talks to Angels.'” Commenting on the show's build-up
of intensity, the writer said: "What started as a
freewheeling stroll turned frenetic, with Chris
screaming on harmonica and twirling around in a
blissful haze while Paul Stacey, their new guitarist
as of Wednesday, fingered a squealing lead solo."
Describing the band's classic songs, Ruggieri said: "A
punchy `Remedy' reminded how it's just a solid,
old-fashioned slamming rock song with a cool bass and
keyboard bridge, while their amped-up version of Otis
Redding's `Hard to Handle' had most fans
singing/slurring along and playing air guitar to its
serrated chords." Though this marked THE BLACK CROWES'
first show with two new members (including keyboardist
Rob Clores), Ruggieri said that, "there were no
obvious indications of first-time jitters."
The band's commanding performance in Reading, PA
(9/8/06) prompted Reading Eagle writer Jon Fassnacht
to note (9/10/06), "Considering the recent turmoil, it
was amazing there was any music played Friday night,
let alone three hours of it. Bluesy rock 'n' roll band
the Black Crowes showed that a rash of bad luck won't
keep it from doing what it loves, taking over a packed
Sovereign Performing Arts Center with a mammoth
performance...Rich Robinson, [Paul] Stacey and [Rob]
Clores were in top form, injecting the songs with
adrenaline and trading off solos like they'd been
playing together for years...The Crowes added a middle
section to the song [`Hard To Handle'], featuring a
thick R&B groove, and Chris Robinson did some inspired
ad-libbing."
The departures of Ford and Hawrysch have led to an
outbreak of speculation by the press and fans. THE
BLACK CROWES have responded with this statement:
"Although we were very disappointed with the timing
and method in which we were notified of the situation
by Marc's attorney, we remain fully supportive of both
Marc and Ed's efforts at sustaining sobriety and are
sincerely hopeful that they enjoy a healthy and
peaceful future.“
The band's fall tour will be highlighted by the band's
October 28 performance at the second annual Vegoose
festival in Las Vegas at Sam Boyd Stadium and wraps up
November 12 at the Love Ride in Castaic, CA. When the
trek ends, THE BLACK CROWES are looking forward to
recording a new album that will be released sometime
in 2007, marking their first album of new studio
material in six years.

THE BLACK CROWES GO INTO THE VAULT FOR THE LOST CROWES
Two-Disc Collection Features Sessions for
Two Unreleased Black Crowes Albums Tall and Band
Plus the DVD Debut of the Band’s 1992 Home Video
Available August 29 From Rhino
LOS ANGELES – Twice The Black Crowes have recorded albums that were never officially released: Tall in 1993 and Band in 1997. While a few songs from these lost albums were rerecorded and released on studio albums, many have emerged only through the band’s legendary live shows. The Black Crowes recently went into the vault, collecting the best moments from those abandoned sessions for a special treat for their longtime fans. Titled THE LOST CROWES, it is a two-disc set of unreleased music that has been remixed for its public debut on Rhino. The compilation will be available August 29 at all retail outlets and at www.rhino.com for a suggested retail price of $24.98. The same day, the band’s 1992 home video, WHO KILLED THAT BIRD OUT ON YOUR WINDOW SILL, will make its DVD debut on Rhino Home Video for a suggested retail price of $14.99.
In fall of 1993 vocalist Chris Robinson, guitarists Rich Robinson and Marc Ford, drummer Steve Gorman, bassist Johnny Colt, and keyboardist Ed Harsch recorded more than 30 songs at Conway Studios in Los Angeles. Working on the follow-up to Southern Harmony And Musical Companion, the band descended into an emotional, startlingly heavy creative patch that became a stepping-stone to the 1994 album, amorica.
Named after an old jazz term for getting high, the Tall sessions contain a total of 16 unreleased tracks that offer an unflinching glimpse into rough and beautiful music born from turmoil and tension. THE LOST CROWES includes early versions of seven amorica songs such as “A Conspiracy,” “Descending,” “Wiser Time” and “Cursed Diamond.” The collection also features the undiscovered classics “Tied Up And Swallowed,” “Feathers,” “Thunderstorm 654” and “Lowdown,” a sad lost anthem that became “Ballad In Urgency.”
Four years later, the band came off the road after headlining the Furthur Festival and went into a Nashville studio to record songs for a planned follow-up to 1996’s acclaimed Three Snakes & One Charm. Where Tall thrives on the mayhem of their young Los Angeles days, Band confidently probes some of The Black Crowes’ most mature, thoughtful work.
The Band sessions contain 10 songs including a different version of the B-side “Peace Anyway,” plus “If It Ever Stops Raining,” a song that would become the title-track to the 1999 album By Your Side. The compilation also spotlights the taut riff rock of “Paint An 8,” the windblown ache of “Wyoming & Me” along with the freaky-longhaired-Mother Earth grooves of “Another Roadside Tragedy,” “Grinnin” and “Life Vest.”
Paul Stacey has remixed all of the music on THE LOST CROWES, which also includes liner notes spotlighting the stories behind these legendary lost sessions as told by the Robinsons.
The Black Crowes released its first home video, WHO KILLED THAT BIRD OUT ON YOUR WINDOW SILL, in 1992 while touring for the band’s sophomore album. Rhino Home Video will release a remastered and expanded version of the video on DVD that features live performances, interviews, backstage and studio footage, videos from the group’s first two albums, and additional bonus features.

THE BLACK CROWES
WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
ROBERT RANDOLPH & THE FAMILY BAND
AND
DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS;
NINE-WEEK TREK ROLLS OUT JUNE 10 IN SEATTLE
On the heels of CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON's three
sold-out nights of acoustic performances in New York
City to ecstatic fans and lengthy standing ovations,
THE BLACK CROWEShave announced a major summer
headlining tour with their special guests Robert
Randolph & The Family Band and Drive-By Truckers.
Launching June 10 in Seattle, the nine-week trek will
visit mostly sheds--including Jones Beach (New York),
PNC Bank (New Jersey), Shoreline (San Francisco),
Tweeter Center (Boston) and Cynthia Woods
(Houston)--as it criss-crosses the U.S. into
mid-August.
Each night of CHRIS and RICH's “Brothers Of A Feather:
An Acoustic Evening With Chris & Rich Robinson of The
Black Crowes” has sold out within minutes after going
on sale. The two-week trek--which marks the first time
the brothers have ever performed full-length acoustic
sets in their 16-year career--concludes April 26 in
Los Angeles after a three-night stand at The Roxy.
While in New York, CHRIS and RICH performed at three
different venues: Warsaw, Rose Theater @ Jazz at
Lincoln Center and Town Hall.
"'Brothers of a Feather' is certainly a sight to
behold and a sound to endear. Although there are only
eleven dates booked for the tour, if Friday's show is
any indication, they will go down in rock and roll
history as some of the greatest performances ever
played," reports the Stony Brook Independent (4/15/06)
about the brothers' show at Rose Theater @ Jazz at
Lincoln Center.
Meanwhile, the band's first-ever DVD FREAK 'N'
ROLL...INTO THE FOG roared out of the box, debuting at
#2 on Billboard's Music Video chart. A film crew
captured THE BLACK CROWES performing five sold-out
nights at San Francisco's historic Fillmore Auditorium
in August 2005. Writing in the SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
about one of the shows, Joel Selvin noted that "The
Black Crowes never sounded better than it did Saturday
at the Fillmore Auditorium, the peak performance of a
sold-out five-night run...(the band) definitely staked
a claim in these Fillmore shows as one of the last of
the classic rock bands” (8/8/05).
Since reuniting and re-connecting with their loyal
fans last year, THE BLACK CROWES have been performing
what some called "the best shows of their career."
While they achieved a career watermark by headlining
their New Year's Eve show at Madison Square Garden,
the band--Chris (vocals), Rich (guitars), Marc Ford
(guitars), Eddie Hawrysch (keyboards), Sven Pipien
(bass) and Steve Gorman (drums)--also played seven
sold-out shows at New York City's Hammerstein
Ballroom, performed five-nights at the Henry Fonda
Theatre in Los Angeles and were headliners at three of
the most prestigious festivals in America (New Orleans
Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, and Austin City
Limits Festival). Summing up the allure of THE BLACK
CROWES' concert experience, Mikael Wood of The Village
Voice (12/28/05) said the band "remain one of rock's
best live acts, as hard-grooving as during their
heyday and caked with an extra layer of rambling-man
soulfulness."

Crowes Emerge From 'Fog' On Live DVD
The live footage shot by the Black Crowes during a multiple-night August 2005 stand at San Francisco's Fillmore Auditorium will finally see the light of day this spring. The show ends with a cover of the Band's "The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down."
The Crowes have been off the road since their New Year's Eve show at New York's Madison Square Garden, but will return to live duty Jan. 29 in Orlando, Fla. The group will then pause until a March 12 appearance at the Langerado Music Festival in Sunrise, Fla., ahead of a five-date swing through London (March 18-19) and Amsterdam (March 22-24).

Having recently made plans to end the year with a Dec.
31 show at New York's Madison Square Garden, the Black
Crowes have announced a March 18-19 stand at London's
Shepherd's Bush Empire. According to a spokesperson,
the shows are one-offs and not part of a longer tour.
As previously reported, the Crowes are working on a

it might be released.
Also soon to materialize are "Instant Live" recordings
of the band's Oct. 30-31 shows at Chicago's Riviera

The Black Crowes Wrap Reunion Tour
By Ian Rice
Arts and Lifestyle Editor
Seven months and one-hundred-twenty-six shows after
The Black Crowes first reappeared onstage together
since they began their indefinite hiatus, the band has
wrapped up the final dates of their reunion tour. With
an amazingly strong set at the Riviera Theater in
Chicago last night, the Black Crowes concluded what
both fans and critics are regarding as their best road
run to date.
The tour certainly gave their other beloved tours
(such as the fan-favored 1996 and 1997 outings) a run
for their money. Aside from featuring Marc Ford in the
lead guitar slot once again (his first appearance with
the band since being let go in late 1997), the tour
was full of surprises, extras and moments of sheer
brilliance.
The first of these surprises can be found in the
band's recruitment of numerous guest performers. Trey
Anastasio (formerly of jam band sensation Phish) got
the ball rolling during a secret club gig early in the
tour, with the likes of Jimmy Herring (Jazz Is Dead),
Audley Freed (an ex-Black Crowe), Gary Louris (The
Jayhawks) and Ben Harper all following suit. Each
guest colored the Black Crowes' performance
wonderfully and left their mark on the evening.
But the band didn't stop there. For the reunion jaunt,
the Crowes introduced a slue of new songs into their
repertoire, incluidng unperformed songs from their
back catalog, a wealth of covers and one brand new
composition. As far as their back catalog goes, the
most surprising setlist additions came with the
performances of "Another Roadside Tragedy," "Paint an
8" and "Wyoming and Me," all of which were culled from
the unreleased 1997 album, The Band. While never
issued commercially, the album made the rounds in
trading circles and is regarded by many fans as their
favorite album.
With regard to cover songs, the Crowes treated
audiences nationwide to over fifty titles, including
first-timers "He's Gone" (originally by the Grateful
Dead), "Fearless" (Pink Floyd) and "Big In Vegas"
(Buck Owens). The covers were expertly selected and
completely at home alongside the band's own timeless
original material.
As for the one new track, the band quietly introduced
their first new composition since 2001 into their
October 1st set before a sold-out crowd in Lexington,
VA. The song, entitled "It's All For You," shows the
Crowes getting back to where they left off when Ford
split the scene, combining an uncanny knack for jams,
a brilliant use of riffs (courtesy of Rich Robinson)
and a necessary dose of Southern soul to make some
completely alluring music.
While there remains no official word from the Black
Crowes camp as to whether or not a new album is on the
horizon, rumor has it that something will surface
sometime in early 2006. The band has a one-off New
Year's Eve gig at Madison Square Garden, but until
then nothing else is officially scheduled.
As the band said themselves in their 1994 hit "Wiser
Time": Another song, another mile.
RENOWNED ACTOR JOHN CORBETT
RELEASES ROCKING DEBUT
COUNTRY ALBUM
Nashville, TN (October 25, 2005) - John Corbett, best
known as the "voice" of hit TV Series Northern
Exposure, "Aidan" from Sex and the City, and "Ian
Miller" in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, among other
notable roles on both the small and big screens, will
release his debut album (Fun Bone Records) on January
31, 2006. An esteemed actor known for his naturalness
in offbeat roles, Corbett hopes music fans will put
aside any preconceptions and put on the music.
"Music has always been central to my life, much more
so than acting," he says. "Acting is how I make my
living. Music has always been a passion - it's
something I love, something I can't live without."
Recorded in Nashville, Corbett's debut blends concise,
straightforward Nashville songcraft with tight,
combustive Southern rock arrangements that allow his
fiery band to stretch out. His material-written by top
songwriters like Hal Ketchum, Jon Randall, Darrell
Scott, Tim Nichols, Rivers Rutherford and Mark
Selby-takes country music's earthy emotionalism and
gives it a rowdy, rocking kick.
The album was recorded with producer D. Scott Miller
and Corbett's longtime musical partner, Tara Novick.
"The beautiful thing is that it was just me and a real
basic band playing live in the studio," he says. "We
wanted it to sound in the moment and not too polished
or fussed over. We wanted that raw emotion you get the
first time you play a song you love."
The musicians come from a mix of country and rock
backgrounds, with Black Crowes' drummer Steve Gorman
and Music City bassist Mike Brignardello laying down a
steel-belted rhythm behind guitarists Kenny Vaughan
and Pat Buchanan, keyboardist Mike Rojas and steel
guitarist Mike Johnson. Harmony vocalists include Sara
Buxton and veteran soul-shouter Jimmy Hall, former
lead singer of Southern rock 'n' soul greats Wet
Willie.
Corbett has received dozens of concert tour offers.
The variety of artists he's opened for reflects the
range of his own songs: He's warmed up crowds for ZZ
Top, Lisa Marie Presley, Buck Owens, Charlie Daniels,
Josh Turner and Asleep at the Wheel, among others. In
November, he'll headline a series of Las Vegas shows
with his band.

Crowes, MMJ, AllStars Set For New Year's Show
By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Black Crowes have tapped My Morning Jacket and the
North Mississippi Allstars for a New Year's Eve show
at New York's Madison Square Garden, marking the
reunited rock act's first headlining concert at the
venue. Tickets go on sale Saturday (Oct. 22) via
Ticketmaster.
The Crowes are in the midst of their last scheduled
touring leg, which encompasses a five-night stand at
Los Angeles' Henry Fonda Theatre that kicks off
tomorrow. No shows are scheduled between an Oct. 31
Halloween gig in Chicago and the New Year's concert.
"At this point in time, we have not discussed any
future domestic touring plans," Crowes manager Pete
Angelus says. "It has always been our intention to
gauge the future of the band, not by the memories and
successes of the past, but rather by the group's
collective feelings of the present."
As previously reported, a five-night run of shows at
San Francisco's Fillmore was filmed for a DVD, with a
release date and label to be announced.
My Morning Jacket is touring North American in support
of its brand new ATO/RCA album, "Z," which debuted
last week at No. 67 on The Billboard 200. North
Mississippi Allstars will return to live duty Oct. 29
at the Vegoose Festival in Las Vegas.

THE BLACK CROWES
TO GIVE PROCEEDS FROM
OCTOBER 7 MUD ISLAND AMPHITHEATRE SHOW
IN MEMPHIS TO HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS
THE BLACK CROWES, together with their Memphis
promoter, Don Fox at Beaver Productions, will dedicate
their performance and all proceeds from their October
7 show at the Mud Island Amphitheatre to people who’ve
been misplaced by Hurricane Katrina. Fans attending
the show in Memphis will be encouraged to donate
canned food and clothing, the distribution of which
Beaver Productions will oversee.
The band’s longtime manager Pete Angelus (Angelus
Entertainment) says, “We have all been profoundly
saddened and deeply moved by the tragic events that
recently unfolded in the Gulf Coast. In that regard,
this will be the first of many efforts made by The
Black Crowes—and as many of the ‘Amoricans’ in their
loyal fan base that care to be included—to reach out
and help the victims of Hurricane Katrina and their
families.”
Don Fox, whose home office in New Orleans was
decimated in the flood, had this to say: “Beaver
Productions has been part of the Memphis and New
Orleans music scene for many years and we are very
proud to be working with The Black Crowes to help the
victims of Katrina.”

Review: Tom Petty, Black Crowes deserve the hype in
Friday concert
By Tony Hicks
CONTRA COSTA TIMES
I want Tom Petty to be my uncle.
But I want the Black Crowes to be my band.
Rarely does a double bill like this -- which rolled
into UC Berkeley's Greek Theatre on Friday -- live up
to the hype, especially when you have two acts so
seeped into a rock orthodoxy, allowing them to
withstand decades of trends. But both acts were superb
Friday by simply showing up and being themselves.
For the Black Crowes, that means balancing their
Stones-meets-Faces boogie with plenty of jamming,
allowing them to stretch their musical wings and have
some fun.
For Petty and his band, the Heartbreakers, it means
doing what they've always done: play sneaky-good music
and be one of the planet's most likable group of
musicians. They can somehow make even the stiffest
starched-shirt type in the crowd yell along with every
chorus.
Petty can fool you with his laid-back stoner, class
clown persona. It just sets up the moments when you
realize (again) how good his band really is. As for
the Crowes, they showed their four-year-layoff was a
good idea, not to mention bringing back guitar great
Marc Ford after eight years.
By the Crowes' second song, "Sting Me," scruffy singer
Chris Robinson was in full Jagger mode, running in
place, clapping his hands and waving his arms. There's
such an obscene amount of natural groove in this band,
especially when drummer Steve Gorman is on (he put on
one of the biggest and best kick drum sounds the Greek
has heard in years).
While Chris Robinson drew everybody's attention, Ford
showed he has rekindled his musical relationship with
the band's other guitarist, Rich Robinson. At least a
half-dozen songs featured long jams centered on the
pair trading licks and noises, taking the band through
drastic peaks and valleys. Ford, who spent the past
few years playing with Ben Harper, smoothly goes from
tasty blues licks a la Mick Taylor, to soaring Eric
Clapton-like leads, reminiscent of his pre-Crowes days
in the L.A. band Burning Tree (a trio known for
sounding like Cream).
The Crowes can jam forever, but as opposed to other
jam bands, who seemingly spend days going nowhere, the
Crowes are usually anchored to a blues progression or
a bottom-heavy riff.
The song "Sometimes Salvation" just teased the crowd
through the brief pauses, with drummer Gorman playing
so forcefully slow, one would almost lurch out of
their chair anticipating the next guitar stroke. They
took the song through a couple of volume-dynamic jam
parts before circling back.
They did the same with "Thorn in My Pride" (the set
list went heavy on the band's second album, 1992's
classic "Southern Harmony and Musical Companion").
After rolling through a comfortable and thick version
of the single "Jealous Again," they ended with a
charged-up "Remedy."
The crowd went from dancing with the Crowes to
standing on chairs for Petty, especially by the time
he was done with opener "Listen to her Heart." Petty's
at the point in his career where he can just go out,
rock his old stuff, and enjoy the crowd's love. It's
so easy to like a band that is so reliably good, yet
so unconcerned with flash or spectacle.
Petty writes songs that fool people. Just because he
walks around with his eyes half-closed and that frozen
half-smile on his face, don't think the guy doesn't
know what he's doing. As usual, Friday was just a
landslide of great songs, with some of the most
memorable sing-along choruses ever written (yeah, tell
me you've never yelled the chorus to "American Girl"
at the top of your lungs when no one was around). It
sounds so easy, because he doesn't take it all too
seriously. His fans, mostly middle-aged working types,
feel it. It's like they have permission to let loose
and have a good time.
At one point, Petty paid tribute to San Francisco
radio station KSAN, which he said jump-started his
career in the 1970s by playing first single
"Breakdown," after no one else would touch it for
months. It was the first of a hand full of massive
sing-alongs ("Won't Back Down," "Free Fallin'," "Mary
Jane's Last Dance," "Learning to Fly," "Don't Come
Around Here No More," "Refugee," "Running Down a
Dream") that dominated the two-hour set, making for a
big communal feel throughout the Greek.
Great songs have so many identifiers. One would know
"Breakdown," for example, by hearing any one part of
it alone -- the drums, guitar riff, organ, the first
hint of lyrics. That's the mark of a great songwriter,
even if it sneaks up on you.
The Heartbreakers played great, as usual. Longtime
guitarist Mike Campbell, who may have the world's best
guitar collection (even if his new short dreadlocks
make him look like Pauly Shore), was Petty's perfect
complement, offering bending vibrato solos to Petty's
more traditional, melodic picking. Campbell replicated
perfectly all the George Harrison slide parts from the
Traveling Wilbury's "Handle with Care," pointing his
guitar skyward in tribute at the end.
The Heartbreakers ended the show demonstrating how a
great band can somehow seem loose and play tight on a
big version of "American Girl."
Neither the Heartbreakers nor the Crowes has a new
record to sell, but Friday's sold-out concert wasn't
about selling records. It was two real rock 'n' roll
bands delivering one of the year's great shows. Which
is exactly why they endure as rock icons. It just
never gets old when it's that good.

Billboard reports:
San Fran Stand Yields Four Crowes Albums
By Jonathan Cohen, N.Y.
The Black Crowes have often seemed more comfortable on stage than anywhere else, so it makes sense that the first fruit of the band's successful reunion tour will be four concert albums via Instant Live.
All the shows were taped during a stint earlier this month at San Francisco's Fillmore and feature a total of 85 songs. They are expected to begin shipping early next week and can be ordered via Instant Live's Web site.
Beyond nuggets from their sizable back catalog, the Crowes have been sprinkling in such covers as the Otis Redding-popularized "You Don't Miss You Water," the Beatles' "Yer Blues," Ry Cooder's "Boomer's Story" and Neil Young's "Pardon My Heart" into their sets.
The group is winding down its stint of support dates with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, and will begin a fall headlining tour Sept. 4 in George, Wash. Dates are on tap through an Oct. 30-31 stint at Chicago's Riviera Theatre.
And although Kate Hudson (wife of Crowes vocalist Chris Robinson) recently told a Dutch magazine that the band is planning to return to the studio in the near future, no details have been confirmed. The Crowes have been absent from the studio since 2001's "Lions," their lone set for V2.

Here is a review of the Saturday Fillmore show from sfgate.com, which was filmed for a future DVD release!!
The Black Crowes return with trademark style to prove their classic rock status at the Fillmore
Joel Selvin, Chronicle Senior Pop Music Critic
Monday, August 8, 2005
Back after breaking up almost four years ago, the Black Crowes never sounded better than it did Saturday at the Fillmore Auditorium, the peak performance of a sold-out five-night run that closes Tuesday.
Plumped up with two soulful female background vocalists and a four-man horn section, the Southern rockers who blew on to the scene 15 years ago with a Stones-y remake of an old Otis Redding song have turned a once-only reunion run last March in New York into a full-blown comeback bid, not only taking the band's small-hall shows around the country, but also joining Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers as opening act for a summer tour that plays Aug. 26 at UC Berkeley's Greek Theater.
The house lights were turned up throughout the show as the proceedings were captured for a home video release. Tickets to shows were selling for as much as $200. For two and a half hours, the Crowes rummaged through a songbook drawn from the six studio albums the band recorded during its first time around. The battling Robinson brothers -- who rank with the Everly, Davies and Gallagher brothers among rock's fabled feuding siblings -- still form the core of the band. As if to emphasize that they have resolved all differences and agreed to get along, the brothers wore matching black vests.
"Me and Rich wore vests so you would know we were brothers," said vocalist Chris Robinson, who is married to actress Kate Hudson.
In the '90s, the Crowes were a decided anomaly among all the flannel-clad grunge of the day, a throwback to bluesy '70s British rockers such as Free or "Exile"-era Stones wrapped with a Southern rock sound that echoed the Allmans and Lynyrd Skynyrd. While the Seattle rock bands went ahead and had their day, the Crowes managed to eke out a sizable constituency with a traditional sound and some jam band touches that courted a certain hippie element.
At the Fillmore, the expanded version of the Crowes blew out songs past the 10-minute limit as the fabulous guitarist Marc Ford played over shifting arrangements and surfed huge tidal waves of sound the band produced. Spindly, bearded Chris Robinson added his own Jaggerisms to a band that already owed considerable debt to the Stones, but, in the end, the band managed to cobble together a style uniquely the Crowes' own.
The new edition of the Crowes, in fact, looks like something of a classic -- a rollicking rock band which, like Queen, was not fully appreciated during the band's day by anyone but the fans. Even though augmenting a band with hired vocalists and studio horn players is usually a bad sign -- everybody from the Eagles on down does this on their comeback tours -- the Crowes stayed close to a trademark style that the six original members could detail with ease.
Bringing the hourlong opening set to a rousing climax with an extended version of "My Morning Song," the band wearing their influences on their sleeves (Stones, Zep, Free, Humble Pie, Faces, etc.), the long instrumental passages felt jammy, but the Crowes are leaving little to chance up there. The musicians depend not so much on spontaneous combustion as carefully interlocking layers.
The second set wobbled to a start on a lengthy series of acoustic and semi-acoustic -- very "Exile" -- but launched the show toward critical mass with a thunderous wall of sound draped behind Robinson on "Seeing Things" that gave the ballad the powerhouse sound of an early Joe Cocker arrangement.
"Hard to Handle," extended past eight minutes, gave way to the Little Feat/Radiators/New Orleans groove of "Let Me Share the Ride," with the horn section driving the song to a big swing band finish, which vocalist Robinson quickly turned into a freight train boogie version of Little Walter's Chicago blues classic, "Mellow Down Easy."
The band finished with an epic "Remedy" and encored with a doleful "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down," a perfect piece of hokum for the Crowes to top off this rich, bountiful performance.
Whether the Crowes can find renewed footing in today's slippery rock scene remains to be seen. But the band -- which was perhaps unfairly obscured in a landscape dominated by bands like Pearl Jam, Smashing Pumpkins and Soundgarden -- definitely staked a claim in these Fillmore shows as one of the last of the classic rock bands.

THE BLACK CROWES FLYING HIGH AS FREE AGENTS WITH SOLD-OUT SHOWS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
As THE BLACK CROWES continue to notch more sold-out
shows and deliver what many are saying are the best
shows of their career, they’re being pursued by the
major and indie record labels and publishing companies
to sign new deals. For now, the fiercely independent
band have chosen to remain free agents in control of
their own destiny—a stance that’s resonating with
their loyal and devoted following who’ve come to
expect nothing less from a band whose unpredictable
set lists vary every night.
Led by brothers CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON, THE BLACK
CROWES are also set to perform this summer at the
biggest festival in Tokyo and Osaka (Summer Sonic
Festival 2005, August 13 &14) and are now rumored to
be scheduling a European tour in January. The band’s
first leg of headlining shows kicked off with seven
sold-out shows in New York City--which celebrated “15
Years of Cosmic Rock-n-Roll”--and concludes Sunday,
May 29 in Montgomery, AL. Next up, the band have been
invited as special guests of Tom Petty & The
Heartbreakers for an American shed tour that spans the
time period of June 7 through September 3. In the
midst of these shed dates, THE BLACK CROWES will
perform at the massive Bonnaroo Festival (June 11) and
headline more shows across the country, including a
five-night stand at the historic Fillmore in San
Francisco (August 5, 6, 7, 9, 10).
The band’s website--www.blackcrowes.com--has seen,
“more traffic and activity than ever before and more
new visitors on a daily basis than anything we have
previously experienced,” says Pete Angelus, the
group’s longtime manager. Angelus adds that “this is a
new era for The Black Crowes. It would be premature to
focus on anything other than their phenomenal live
shows at this point in time. They’re doing what they
want to do, they’re playing what they want to play—all
on their own terms--and you can hear that excitement
in the music which is being resoundingly reciprocated
by their audiences.”

Black Crowes Expand Tour, Reveal Lineup
As expected, the Black Crowes reunion has grown into a full-blown tour, and the band has finally unveiled details of the musicians who will back founding sibling duo Chris and Rich Robinson at the band's first gigs since October 2001.
Guitarist Marc Ford is back in the fold for the first time since 1997, while Bill Dobrow, who played with Rich Robinson in the short-lived band Hookah Brown, will take over for Steve Gorman on drums.
Bassist Sven Pipien returns for the first time since his less-than-amicable departure in 2000, while longtime keyboardist Eddie Hawyrsch will round out the group.
Beyond the Crowes' previously announced seven-show run at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom later this month, plus appearances at Bonnaroo and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, more than 20 new dates have been confirmed through mid-June.

The reunited Black Crowes have been added to the bill for the Bonnaroo festival (June 11 in Manchester, Tenn.) and New Orleans' annual Jazz and Heritage festival (April 22). In addition, the group has added two additional shows, March 29-30, to its previously announced five-night run at New York's Hammerstein Ballroom.
Those gigs sold out within minutes of going on sale to the general public over the weekend. Tickets for the newly added dates, which will feature support by North Mississippi Allstars, will be available via an Internet pre-sale starting Thursday (Feb. 10) and to the general public on Saturday.According to the band's official Web site, the majority of the tickets for the March 29-30 shows will be up for grabs during the Internet presale. It is still unknown which musicians will be joining principal Crowes members Chris and Rich Robinson at the shows, which will be the band's first since later October 2001.

THE BLACK CROWES
ARE SET TO ALL JOIN HANDS
WITH FIVE-NIGHT ENGAGEMENT
IN NEW YORK CITY
MARCH 22-27
After months of speculation, THE BLACK CROWES will make a triumphant return to the live concert stage with five special shows--billed by brothers CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON as ALL JOIN HANDS-- at New Yorks Hammerstein Ballroom beginning March 22. These concerts mark the first shows by The Most Rock N Roll Rock N Roll Band In The World since October 31, 2001.
Tickets for the limited engagement will be available to fans January 25 via an Internet pre-sale (www.blackcrowes.com & www.musictoday.com), with the public on-sale date set for February 5. Each show will feature a special opening guest handpicked by CHRIS and RICH: John Butler Trio (3/22), The Bees (3/23), The Soundtrack Of Our Lives (3/25), North Mississippi Allstars (3/26) and Ben Kweller (3/27). Longtime group manager Pete Angelus states that these are the only confirmed shows and no future touring plans or dates have been confirmed. Regardless of the speculation, we are going to see how these shows at The Hammerstein evolve before giving any further consideration to additional shows, says Angelus.
In early 2002, THE BLACK CROWES announced a hiatus, leaving CHRIS and RICH ROBINSON free to record solo albums. Last summer, rumors about THE BLACK CROWES taking flight again began when their long-dormant website (www.blackcrowes.com) suddenly became animated, showing two Crowe heads facing each other with audio clips of the bands music. Instantly, message boards on the Internet began buzzing.
From the beginning, when they roared out of the gate with their multi-platinum debut album SHAKE YOUR MONEYMAKER in 1990, THE BLACK CROWES have played by their own rules, pissed off detractors and formed an intimate connection with their audience, while maintaining their independence and creative freedom from standard industry practices. Their mission: to create rock and roll that is fierce and genuine, with a sound that didnt conform to easy categorization. You could hear it in their six studio albums and in their panoramic live shows. As the band racked up worldwide album sales exceeding 15 million, the band performed over 2000 shows between 1990 and 2001. Their gigs became legendary for set lists which changed every night and signature incendiary musical explorations. THE BLACK CROWES are one of the few contemporary bands who have also shared the stage with Jimmy Page, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, AC/DC, The Who, Neil Young, The Grateful Dead and many other legendary artists.
This is the highly anticipated and long awaited return of THE BLACK CROWES.
The Hammerstein Ballroom shows are
as follows:
Date/Supporting band
03/22: John Butler Trio
03/23: The Bees
03/25: The Soundtrack Of Our Lives
03/26: North Mississippi Allstars
03/27: Ben Kweller
